His passion for theater is said to stem from the fact that his parents met in an amateur theater group in Tübingen. In 1977 he graduated from the Uhland-Gymnasium in Tübingen and received the Scheffel Prize . From 1976 to 1979, i.e. while he was still at school and parallel to his Abitur, he worked at the Zimmertheater Tübingen (directorship: Helfrid Foron ) as a stage technician, lighting technician, sound technician, carpenter, cashier, props manager, stage manager , assistant director, etc., so he learned the theater trade “ from scratch".
