With her production, director Effi Mendez has succeeded in creating a wonderfully entertaining, happy and amusing spectacle in Stefan Heinrich 's wonderfully looking stage design . She relied on busy leadership, gave the protagonists all the freedom to act without it degenerating into slapstick. The imaginative, gaudy costumes designed by Ilona Holdorf-Schimanke with lots of houndstooth fabric also contributed to the success of this original, entertaining performance. Under the prudent direction of Takahiro Nagasaki , the Lübeck Philharmonic Orchestra makes music wonderfully light and tastes the Italian-spirited, playful compositionDonizetti's gorgeous.
