The Puccini-Ravel Double Bill Connects In More Ways Than Meets the Eye
POP’s cast for this production was excellent. Right from the start, from the male chorus’s “We Are Gentlemen of Japan,” I found myself reflecting on the fact that the diction was exceptionally clear at all times – an important consideration when delivering Gilbert’s lines.
The element of the production that stands out brightest is its gaggle of mincing manga maidens. From their neon-bright lip-gloss to their cotton candy outfits and Hello Kitty backpacks, these young ladies are a visual, vocal, and comic delight.
