7. Sinfoniekonzert: Overture No. 1 in E Minor, Op. 23 (+2 More)

The 7th symphony concert belongs to three important women in music history. It opens with an overture by Louise Farrenc, the first female professor at the Paris Conservatory: rooted in German classicism through her teacher Anton Reicha, she clearly set out on the path to French Romanticism as early as 1834.

Around 80 years later, the 19-year-old Lili Boulanger created a musical sensation with 'Faust et Hélène': with her adaptation of Goethe's 'Faust II' she became the first woman to win the coveted 'Prix de Rome' in 1913 and became instantly famous.

"I am a woman - and I have black blood in my veins", is how Florence Price, born in 1887, called the "handicaps" on her way to success. In her 3rd symphony from 1938/40 she combines classical forms and elements of her origins - with percussive power and rousing rhythms.
