Commissioned by Villa Musica, the Spanish composer Pedro Halffter arranged Beethoven's Ninth Symphony for chamber music ensembles. In slimmer dimensions, with a chamber choir and four young soloists, the much-performed work manages without the ballast of monumental performances. Transparency and youthful vigor take the place of Wagnerian performance tradition. A crew of young musicians from North Rhine-Westphalia works with the composer's son and conductor Halffter to develop his version especially for the RheinVokal Festival. The streamlined Ninth has its world premiere at kING.

Im Auftrag der Villa Musica hat der spanische Komponist Pedro Halffter Beethovens Neunte Sinfonie für kammermusikalische Besetzung arrangiert. In schlankeren Dimensionen, mit Kammerchor und vier jungen Solisten kommt das viel gespielte Werk ohne den Ballast der Monumentalaufführungen aus. Transparenz und jugendlicher Elan treten an die Stelle der Wagnerschen Aufführungstradition. Eine Crew junger Musikerinnen und Musiker aus NRW erarbeitet mit dem Komponistensohn und Dirigenten Halffter seine Fassung eigens für das Festival RheinVokal. In der kING erlebt die verschlankte Neunte ihre Weltpremiere.
