Beethovens nionde symfoni blev också hans sista. När den uruppfördes 1824 var en av solisterna tvungen att vända den döve Beethoven mot publiken för att han skulle upptäcka jublet och de ivriga applåderna. Succén var enorm, och det skulle visa sig att Beethoven hade skrivit musik för framtiden. Sedan 1972 är fjärde satsens musiksättning av Friedrich Schillers dikt An die Freude officiell hymn för Europarådet och sedan 1985 även för Europeiska unionen, EU. I symfonin gestaltar Beethoven mänsklighetens universella triumf och symboliskt skiftar musiken från moll till dur.

Inför det här framförandet av Beethovens Nia har Akademiska kören bjudit in Norrlands Nations Kammarkör och Of Chorus och bildat en storkör. Tillsammans med stjärnsolisterna Henriikka Gröndahl, Miriam Treichl, Lars Cleveman och John Erik Eleby samt Orkestern Filialen hyllar vi, under ledning av Håkan Sund, glädjen, friheten och gemenskapen i en tid som kanske behöver det mer än någonsin.

Beethoven's Ninth Symphony was also his last. When it was first performed in 1824, one of the soloists had to turn the deaf Beethoven towards the audience in order for him to detect the cheers and enthusiastic applause. The success was enormous, and it would appear that Beethoven had written music for the future. Since 1972, the fourth movement set to music of Friedrich Schiller's poem An die Freude has been the official anthem of the Council of Europe and since 1985 also of the European Union, EU. In the symphony, Beethoven portrays the universal triumph of humanity and symbolically the music shifts from minor to major.

Before this performance of Beethoven's Nia, the Academic Choir has invited Norrland's Nation's Chamber Choir and Of Chorus and formed a large choir. Together with the star soloists Henriikka Gröndahl, Miriam Treichl, Lars Cleveman and John Erik Eleby and Orkestern Filialen, we celebrate, under the direction of Håkan Sund, the joy, freedom and community in a time that perhaps needs it more than ever.
