Hilary Hahn — the NY Phil’s 2023–24 season Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence — takes center stage in Beethoven’s stately Violin Concerto. Jaap van Zweden concludes the program by conducting Copland’s stirring Third Symphony.

Jaap van Zweden began his tenure as the 26th Music Director of the New York Philharmonic in September 2018. He also serves as Music Director of the Hong Kong Philharmonic, a post he has held since 2012, and becomes Music Director of the Seoul Philharmonic in 2024. He has conducted orchestras on three continents, appearing as guest with, in Europe, the Orchestre de Paris, Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, and London Symphony Orchestra, and, in the United States, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and other distinguished ensembles.

Three-time Grammy Award–winning violinist Hilary Hahn melds expressive musicality and technical expertise with a diverse repertoire guided by artistic curiosity. She is currently artist-in-residence at both the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and London’s Wigmore Hall, and is co-founder and vice president of artistic partnerships of the AI-music initiative Deepmusic.AI. In the 2023–24 season she serves as the NY Phil’s Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence, performing concertos by Prokofiev, Ginastera, and Sarasate, and giving an all-Bach recital.
