The Icelandic Opera will perform the opera Brothers by the Icelandic composer Daníel Bjarnason on October 22nd 2022 at 8 pm in Eldborg

 

The opera is about the sacrifices we make by going to war, brotherhood and love and is based on Susanne Bier’s film. The Libretto is written by Kerstin Perski.

 

Brothers is the first opera written by the composer and was premiered in Musik huset in Aarhus in 2017, and performed in Harpa on June 9th 2018 receiving raving reviews and many awards.

 

The stage director Kasper Holten was the Opera Director at Covent Garden and currently currently holds the position of the Executive Director of Det Kongelige Teater in Copenhagen.

 

“ The opera Brothers is a masterpiece that we are proud to present to our audiences for the second time in Iceland. We performed it at the Armel Opera Festival in Budapest in the summer of 2019. It will be performed at an international Opera Festival in August 2023” says Steinunn Ragnarsdóttir the Executive and Artistic Director of the Icelandic Opera.

 

The opera is performed in English. Performance time 100 minutes.

Íslenska óperan mun sýna óperuna Brothers eftir Daníel Bjarnason þann 22. október 2022 í Eldborg.

Verkið fjallar um fórnarkostnað þess að fara í stríð, bræðralag og ástir og er byggt á samnefndri kvikmynd eftir Susanne Bier sem margir þekkja og librettóið er eftir Kerstin Perski.

Óperan, sem er fyrsta ópera tónskáldsins og var frumsýnd í Musikhuset í Árósum 2017 og í Eldborg 9. Júní 2018 og hlaut frábærar viðtökur áheyrenda og einróma lof gagnrýnenda. Leikstjóri uppfærslunnar er Kasper Holten sem var áður óperustjóri í Covent Garden en gegnir nú stöðu framkvæmdastjóra Det KongeligeTeater. 

„Brothers er stórbrotin ópera og frábært að geta boðið íslenskum áhorfendum að njóta uppfærslunnar í annað sinn á Íslandi, en óperan var sýnd á Armel óperuhátíðinni í Budpest 2019 og mun verða sýnd á erlendri óperuhátíð haustið 2023" - segir Steinunn Ragnarsdóttir óperustjóri Íslensku óperunnar.
