Budapest Festival Orchestra and music director Iván Fischer are one of the classical music success stories. More than 40 years after its foundation, the well-oiled tandem has become one of the most popular top orchestras in the world. In 2022 the readers of Gramophone voted Budapest Festival Orchestra 'Orchestra of the Year'. In terms of form, Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 is his first symphony that follows the tradition of the genre. For Fischer, it is the most Jewish of Mahler’s symphonies. However most people associate the work with the famous Adagietto. A few years before his death, Felix Mendelssohn wrote his best-known Violin Concerto for his good friend Ferdinand David. The soloist can get stuck in immediately and perform the dreamy first melody. What’s more, the three movements of the concerto flow into one another. For young violinists, it is a calling card. For a seasoned violinist like Renaud Capuçon, it is a fountain of eternal youth.

Meer dan 40 jaar na de oprichting is de geoliede tandem uitgegroeid tot één van de meest geliefde toporkesten ter wereld. In 2022 riepen de lezers van Gramophone Budapest Festival Orchestra uit tot 'Orchestra of the Year'. De Vijfde Symfonie van Mahler is qua vorm zijn eerste symfonie die de traditie van het genre volgt. Voor Fischer is het de meest Joodse Mahler-symfonie. Maar iedereen associeert het werk eerder met het beroemde Adagietto. Enkele jaren voor zijn dood schreef Felix Mendelssohn zijn bekendste Vioolconcerto voor goede vriend Ferdinand David. De solist mag meteen uitpakken en de dromerige eerste melodie spelen. Bovendien vloeien de drie delen van het concerto in elkaar over. Voor jonge violisten is het een visitekaartje. La Symphonie n°5 de Mahler est la première œuvre du compositeur conforme aux traditions formelles du genre symphonique. Selon Fischer c'est « la plus juive » de ses symphonies, mais la plupart des gens la prisent surtout pour le célèbre Adagietto. Felix Mendelssohn a écrit son Concerto pour violon le plus connu quelques années avant sa mort, pour son grand ami Ferdinand David. L'œuvre donne d'emblée le beau rôle au soliste, qui joue la mélodie initiale rêveuse. Ce concerto, dont les trois mouvements se fondent l'un dans l'autre, est une carte de visite idéale pour les jeunes violonistes.
