Carmen. The name conjures myriad allusions: feral gypsy, sexual hedonist, fatalistic soul. This irresistible seductress enters into a love affair with a man whose consuming jealousy attempts to tame her. Underneath the erotically alluring sun-drenched setting is a chronicle of fatal conflict as duty and obsession collide.

The driving passion of Bizet’s score includes some of opera’s most popular music. The COC's 2016 production was conducted by Paolo Carignani and directed by Joel Ivany of Against the Grain Theatre.
