El oratorio La Soberbia abatida por la humildad de San Miguel (1727) fue interpretado en la Iglesia de la Congregación de San Felipe Neri de València en 1728, el mismo año en que su autor, Francisco Hernández Illana, desempeñó el puesto de maestro de capilla en el Corpus Christi de València. El libreto narra cómo la Soberbia, representada por los ángeles seguidores de Luzbel, es derrotada por San Miguel. Casi tres siglos después de aquel acontecimiento musical, la formación camerística Concerto 1700, acompañada de un experto elenco vocal, revive en València esta brillante partitura, representativa del incalculable repertorio cultivado en las capillas musicales españolas durante la primera mitad del siglo XVIII.

The oratorio La Soberbia abatida por la humildad de San Miguel (1727) was performed in the Church of the Congregation of San Felipe Neri in Valencia in 1728, the same year that its author, Francisco Hernández Illana, held the position of chapel master in the Corpus Christi of Valencia. The libretto narrates how Pride, represented by the angels who follow Luzbel, is defeated by San Miguel. Almost three centuries after that musical event, the chamber ensemble Concerto 1700, accompanied by an expert vocal cast, revives in Valencia this brilliant score, representative of the incalculable repertoire cultivated in the Spanish musical chapels during the first half of the 18th century.
