»Die einzige Oper, die überhaupt etwas wert ist«, nannte Thomas Bernhard sie, vermutlich aufgrund ihres schonungslos ehrlichen Blicks auf menschliche Schwächen und emotionale Abgründe. Das romantische Zeitalter hatte allerdings seine Probleme mit diesem illusionslos aufgeklärten Blick und der vordergründigen Misogynie des Stoffs. Erst in den letzten Jahrzehnten eroberte sich Mozarts letzte Opera buffa, geschrieben mit seinem kongenialen Textdichter Lorenzo Da Ponte, einen der ersten Plätze der internationalen Aufführungsstatistiken.
Die Hamburger Regisseurin Luise Kautz, zuletzt in Kiel mit »Die tote Stadt« und »Die Jüdin« erfolgreich, nähert sich aus der weiblichen Perspektive diesem immer wieder aufs Neue herausfordernden Werk. Generalmusikdirektor Benjamin Reiners setzt damit seinen neuen Mozart-Zyklus nach »Die Gärtnerin aus Liebe« und »Die Zauberflöte« fort.

"The only opera that's worth anything at all," Thomas Bernhard called it, presumably because of its ruthlessly honest view of human weaknesses and emotional abysses. However, the romantic age had its problems with this illusion-free, enlightened view and the superficial misogyny of the material. Only in the last few decades did Mozart's last opera buffa, written with his congenial lyricist Lorenzo Da Ponte, take one of the top spots in international performance statistics.
The Hamburg director Luise Kautz, most recently successful in Kiel with »Die tote Stadt« and »Die Jüdin«, approaches this constantly challenging work from the female perspective. General Music Director Benjamin Reiners is thus continuing his new Mozart cycle after »The Gardener of Love« and »The Magic Flute«.
