A dream wedding in white, a house of their own and children, that's how Fiordiligi and Dorabella imagine their future. The sisters thus represent the majority in the statistics that Don Alfonso diligently compiles. The researcher into love and fidelity is also convinced that women cannot be faithful. He persuades the sisters' fiancées to make a bet: to test the fidelity of Fiordiligi and Dorabella, the two men are drafted as soldiers, only to return a little later in disguise and woo the other woman. But Don Alfonso's experiment plunges the four participants into serious emotional crises and develops an unforeseen momentum of its own.

Cordula Däuper, who most recently brought La finta giardiniera and the children's music theater Counting and Narrating to the stage in Mainz with a lot of wit and enthusiasm, is now dedicating herself again to a Mozart opera. In her interpretation of Così fan tutte , the director questions traditional ideas of a future for two and shows characters in search of the right life model for them.

Traumhochzeit in Weiß, ein eigenes Haus und Kinder, so stellen sich Fiordiligi und Dorabella ihre Zukunft vor. Damit entsprechen die Schwestern der Mehrheit in den Statistiken, die Don Alfonso eifrig erstellt. Der Forscher in Sachen Liebe und Treue ist außerdem überzeugt davon, dass Frauen nicht treu sein können. Er überredet die Verlobten der beiden Schwestern zu einer Wette: Um die Treue von Fiordiligi und Dorabella zu testen, werden die beiden Männer als Soldaten eingezogen, nur um wenig später in Verkleidung zurückzukehren und um die jeweils andere Frau zu werben. Doch Don Alfonsos Experiment stürzt die vier Beteiligten in ernsthafte emotionale Krisen und entwickelt eine unvorhergesehene Eigendynamik.

Cordula Däuper, die in Mainz zuletzt mit viel Witz und Spielfreude La finta giardiniera und das Kindermusiktheater Zählen und Erzählen auf die Bühne brachte, widmet sich nun erneut einer Mozartoper. In ihrer Deutung von Così fan tutte befragt die Regisseurin traditionelle Vorstellungen von einer Zukunft zu zweit und zeigt Figuren auf der Suche nach dem für sie richtigen Lebensmodell.
