"Cyganeria" graced the stage of the Grand Theatre in Łódź three times – most recently in 2007, in a remarkable production by Laco Adamik. This incredibly popular opera by Giacomo Puccini – second only to "Turandot" – is one of the most frequently performed works on opera stages worldwide, not only due to its spectacular music but also because of its poignant plot. Its characters – colorful representatives of the artistic bohemia – unexpectedly encounter situations far from their habits and customs, situations that evoke new reactions and emotions in them. The main character of the opera – Mimi – brings new values and emotions into their lives, and for Rudolf, the artist – painter, she becomes the object of new experiences and feelings, not entirely possible to fully realize.
 
This romantic opera by Puccini has already proven on stage that its plot and the relationships between the main characters are very close and significant for contemporary audiences, and the music superbly illustrating the emotions of the main characters – from the first to the last measure – makes it difficult to divert one's attention from the stage and vocal action. Thus, "Cyganeria" is a timeless work, spectacular yet not flashy, melodic yet not banal, moving… It's a work that captivates and touches contemporary audiences, but also prompts reflection. And the music?... It speaks for itself...

„Cyganeria” gościła na scenie Teatru Wielkiego w Łodzi trzykrotnie – ostatnio w 2007 roku, w znakomitej realizacji Laco Adamika. Ta niezwykle popularna opera Giacomo Pucciniego - druga obok Turandot – jest jednym z najczęściej prezentowanych dzieł na światowych scenach operowych nie tylko dzięki efektownej muzyce, ale także ze względu na poruszającą fabułę. Jej bohaterowie – barwni reprezentanci artystycznej bohemy – stykają się niespodziewanie z zaskakującymi sytuacjami dalekimi od ich nawyków i przyzwyczajeń, sytuacjami - które rodzą w nich inne od dotychczasowych reakcje i uczucia. Główna bohaterka opery – Mimi – wnosi w ich życie nowe wartości i emocje, a dla Rudolfa, artysty – malarza, staję się obiektem nowych dla niego wrażeń i uczuć, nie do końca możliwych do całkowitego zrealizowania.
 
Ta romantyczna opera Pucciniego już nie raz udowodniła na scenie, że jej fabuła i relacje między głównymi bohaterami są bardzo bliskie i znaczące dla współczesnego widza, a muzyka znakomicie ilustrująca emocje głównych bohaterów – od pierwszego do ostatniego taktu – sprawia, że trudno oderwać mu uwagę od akcji scenicznej i wokalnej. Jest więc Cyganeria dziełem ponadczasowym, efektownym choć nie efekciarskim, melodyjnym choć niebanalnym, wzruszającym… Dziełem, które także współczesnego widza zachwyca i porusza, ale skłania też do refleksji. A muzyka?... Mówi sama za siebie…
