The young Wagner created his opera The Flying Dutchman, fascinated by the mythical myths of a wandering sailor doomed to wander with his ghost ship until Doomsday. The composer wrote the libretto and music for a short time and himself conducted the premiere in Dresden in 1834.

"The Flying Dutchman" is one of the top achievements of German romantic opera after Carl Maria von Weber. Against the background of stormy music, ghostly choruses and intoxicating songs reminiscent of paintings by Dutch artists Rembrandt and Van Eyck, the romantic relationship between the Dutchman and the girl Senta develops, whose love could save the captain from his misfortune.

The skillful combination of realistic and fantastic scenes reveals the drama of the main characters.

The musical image of the Dutchman with his torments is a real artistic achievement in opera, and romantic, dreamy and sublime, Senta is the embodiment of Wagner's ideal of a loving and faithful woman.

 

The Flying Dutchman - Linka Stoyanova, Geo Chobanov"The Flying Dutchman" intrigues with its ballad character, drama and at the same time its national appearance. Along with the romantic youthful impulses, the opera reflects the original thinking of the author and contains that specific power of suggestion that will become typical of all of Wagner's work.

Младият Вагнер създава своята опера „Летящият холандец“, увлечен от широко разпространените в крайморските страни митове за моряка-скитник, осъден да скита с призрачния си кораб до деня на Страшния съд. Композиторът написва либретото и музиката за кратко време и сам дирижира премиерата в Дрезден през 1834 г.

„Летящият холандец” е едно от върховите постижения на немската романтична опера след Карл Мария фон Вебер. На фона на буреносната музика, призрачните припеви и опиващите песни, които напомнят живописта на холандските художници Рембранд и Ван Ейк, се развива и романтичната връзка между Холандеца и девойката Сента, чиято любов би могла да избави капитана от злочестата му участ.

Умелото съчетание между битово-реалистични и фантастични сцени разкрива драмата на главните герои.

Музикалният образ на Холандеца с неговите душевни терзания представлява истинско художествено достижение в оперното творчество, а романтична, мечтателна и възвишена, Сента е олицетворение на идеала на Вагнер за любящата и вярна жена.

 

Летящият холандец -Линка Стоянова, Гео Чобанов„Летящият холандец” интригува със своя баладичен характер, с драматизма и в същото време с народностния си облик. Наред с романтичните младежки пориви, операта отразява оригиналното мислене на автора и съдържа онази специфична сила на внушението, която ще стане типична за цялото творчество на Вагнер.

Постановката на Държавна опера Варна е нейния 71-ви творчески сезон е резултат от творческото партньорство с „Народно позорище“ – Белград, Националния театър за опера и балет на Република Сърбия.
