Freelancer (Der Freischütz)is a romantic opera in 3 acts. The world premiere took place 200 years ago on June 18, 1821 at the Königliches Schauspielhaus in Berlin. The work is considered the first German romantic opera in history, although it still contains many spoken parts, and the orchestra and music are rooted in classicism. However, the subject matter itself deserves attention - the history is based on legends and folk tales characteristic of the nascent Romanticism. In the musical layer, the composer used leitmotifs assigned to specific characters of the opera, which was developed by Richard Wagner in later years. The opera tells a story that begins with a shooting competition in which Maks lost to the villager Kilian, which is the reason for a great holiday for all residents. Kuno, the prince's forester, is disappointed with Maks' failure. Another tournament is to be held tomorrow, but the winning hand is Agata - the daughter of the forester Kuna. Prince Ottokar himself will be a witness to the struggle of the shooters. Max's friend, Kacper, entered into a deal with the devil Samiel, to whom he is to deliver the souls of other people. The next victim of the devil is Maks. Kacper persuaded Maks to cast the balls together in the Wolf's Ravine, which will turn out to be devil's bullets. Maks can shoot whatever he wants and he will always hit the target, but the last bullet belongs to the devil. At the tournament, Maks was supposed to hit his beloved Agata, but the Hermit's blessing over the Woodsman's daughter saved her from death, and the cursed bullet hit Kacper, whose soul was taken by Samiel. entered into agreements with the devil Samiel, to whom he is to deliver the souls of other people.
