When the curtain rose for the first time on November 17, 1915 in the Johann Strauss Theater in Vienna for the operetta “Die Csárdásfürstin”, the audience witnessed the birth of a global success. Kálmán's music shows an enormous wealth.
He skillfully combines the melancholy of the Hungarian csárdás with the elegance of the Viennese waltz and new elements from the world of popular music. Melodies like “Chose doesn't work without women”, “Do you remember?”, “The girls from the Chantant”, “Let's do it after the swallows” or “Jai Mamam Bruderherz” went around the world after the premiere and became to real catchy tunes.

»What to do with a work that is one of the most staged operettas in music history, which celebrates its premiere in the hundredth year after the end of the First World War, in which it was created, in the eighteenth year after the memorable production by Peter Konwitschny at the Semperoper and this everything about the new house? An exciting challenge, as the "Csárdásfürstin" deals not only with the omnipresent subject of love and passion, but also with social problems that concern us at the moment: discrimination against minorities, xenophobia, corruption, nepotism ...
