On the one hand there is the beggar king Jonathan Peachum as an entrepreneur for whom need and poverty are a business. On the other hand, the ruthless crime boss Mackie Messer tries his hand at solid bourgeois life. The battle between Peachum and Macheath shows how brutally capitalism reigns in this Soho. The figures drop everything that would be a hindrance to survive in the struggle for existence. Troubled people take revenge. On the one hand fictional, as in the fantastic song of the pirate Jenny. On the other hand, the artist duo Brecht and Weill took revenge on a world that only appeared to be decent, by having in the “The Threepenny Opera“ celebrates the beauty of the mixed with sharp lyrics and irresistible music: jazz, popular music, opera and operetta are fused with drama to create an entertainment that made it the most successful German play of the 20th century.
