Day against night, white against black, men against women, civilization against nature - The Magic Fluteseems to be permeated by a clear system of values. The fact that the most played opera is much more complex and sometimes even more puzzling than the first impression suggests, has led to very different approaches to interpretation. The piece presents itself as a magical fairy tale, a Viennese suburban theater and a solemn mystery play. It is therefore worthwhile to look at this masterpiece again and again. Especially when the St.Gallen Theater uses its full potential: All members of the directing team are permanent employees of the house and have the opportunity to show their skills on the big stage. They want to create an imaginative and entertaining world together to tell the story of Pamina and Tamino, the Queen and Sarastro, To tell Papageno and Papagena anew and to examine them critically. The Austrian conductor Katharina Müllner will make her debut at the St.Gallen Theater with this production.
