"The opera of all operas" is what the poet ETA Hoffmann called Mozart's "Don Giovanni". The work has been highly valued since its first performance in Prague in 1787, and it triumphed across Europe. Mozart drew on the full potential of his musical creativity - and his congenial librettist Da Ponte succeeded in telling the old, well-known story in a new and lively manner.

Characters with individual contours move on stage with an astonishing wealth of emotions. Comedy-like elements are just as present as the cryptic and demonic - when the title hero is confronted with death, the events grow to tragic magnitude. With just eight people singing and playing, a whole world is unfolded that once again clearly shows the audience what music and theater can achieve. The Mozart Da Ponte trilogy, which director Vincent Huguet and conductor Daniel Barenboim designed together, is completed with »Don Giovanni«.

»Die Oper aller Opern« hat der Dichter E.T.A. Hoffmann Mozarts »Don Giovanni« genannt. Seit seiner Uraufführung 1787 in Prag ist das Werk hoch geschätzt, durch ganz Europa nahm es seinen Siegeszug. Mozart hat aus dem Vollen seiner musikalischen Kreativität geschöpft – und seinem kongenialen Librettisten Da Ponte gelang es, die alte bekannte Geschichte neu und lebendig zu erzählen.

Charaktere mit individuellen Konturen bewegen sich auf der Bühne, mit einer staunenswerten Fülle von Emotionen. Komödienhafte Elemente sind ebenso präsent wie Abgründiges und Dämonisches –wenn der Titelheld mit dem Tod konfrontiert wird, wächst das Geschehen zu tragischer Größe empor. Mit nur acht singenden und spielenden Personen wird eine ganze Welt entfaltet, die dem Publikum einmal mehr deutlich vor Augen und vor Ohren führt, was Musik und Theater leisten können. Die Mozart-Da-Ponte-Trilogie, die Regisseur Vincent Huguet und Dirigent Daniel Barenboim gemeinsam entworfen haben, wird mit »Don Giovanni« komplettiert.
