I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Romeo und Julia) - Theater und Orchester Heidelberg

Centuries old, but told again and again today, is the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet. She achieved final world fame thanks to the Englishman William Shakespeare. Vincenzo Bellini (1801–35), the belcanto composer who died early, and his librettist Felice Romani decided in their version to build the narrative center around the conflict between the warring families Romeos and Julias, the Capulets and the Montagues. Critics warned of the lack of lyrical passages, which made Shakespeare's drama so special. But that's where Bellini's musical mastery comes in. Wide-ranging melodious arcs combine artistic arias and scenes full of tension to create a dense and virtuoso musical theater work.
