Few could have imagined that this group of twelve young musicians performing in Rome on March 31, 1952 for the Santa Cecilia concerts would have remained active after 70 years of concerts around the world.

The history of I Musici actually begins a year earlier, in 1951, when a group of enthusiastic young people, well guided and advised by their excellent teachers, came together with the desire to study and enhance the immense and beautiful repertoire of Italian music of the eighteenth century, but not only that, but to do it with a unique characteristic at that time -and also now-: playing without a conductor. It was an immediate smashing success. In a few years I Musici became the most famous chamber group in the world, performing numerous concerts and recordings that received countless awards. Records they have recorded mainly for Philips, but more recently also for Sony, Epic, Warner, Foné, Dynamic, Deutsche Grammophon and Universal, representing a veritable treasure trove for enthusiastic music lovers around the world.

There is one work, above many others, that is always associated with I MUSICI: The Four Seasons by Vivaldi, which also, and above all thanks to them, became one of the best-known compositions in the world. And together in Vivaldi also other works by Corelli, Locatelli, Albinoni, Tartini, Marcello...

But the repertoire of I Musici has not been limited only to the 18th century: Sonatas a Quattro di Rossini, Arias and ancient dances by Respighi, Serenades and Divertimenti by Mozart, Symphonies for strings by Mendelssohn, and later Frank Martin, Hindemith would soon arrive. , Bartok… In addition to the Concerto for Strings written especially for them by Nino Rota, other important composers such as Porriño, Sakamoto, Bacalov or Morricone have composed with them in mind.

In March 2020 they celebrated 70 years since the start of their brilliant career, during which I Musici has never stopped traveling and projecting its incredible image of perfection and extreme quality all over the world.

Of course, after 70 years the members of the original lineup closed their cycle, but other talented and motivated musicians have joined the group, a group that still looks forward, strengthened by the never-extinguished passion and the affection of the fans that in everyone enthusiastically awaits their concerts, ready to applaud them with the usual warmth.

There are no secrets, just a sincere passion for music and the desire to communicate it traveling through time and languages, so much so that, in modern times, we could say that this 70th anniversary is a 7.0 for I MusicI. An important milestone that is both a point of arrival but also, if you will, a return home.

MARCO FIORINI, conductor and concertmaster

He is the concertmaster of the formation since 2019.

After studying under the direction of his mother Montserrat Cervera (founding member of I MUSICI) Mila Costisella in Rome, Pavel Vernikov, Zinaida Gilels and Eugenia Chugajeva in Portogruaro and Vienna, he soon established himself as one of the most interesting concertmasters of his generation. .

From 1996 to 2006 he was first solo violin (concertmaster) of the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome. He also collaborated as concertmaster, among others, with the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Toscanini Symphony, the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, the Rome Symphony Orchestra, the Rome Opera Orchestra and the KBS Seoul Symphony Orchestra ( Korea)... working together with illustrious conductors such as Chung, Maazel, Pretre, Sawallisch, Temirkanov, Pappano, Tate, Dutoit, Fruhbeck de Burgos, Masur... and touring extensively throughout Europe, Japan, Korea and China, performing the best-known "solos ” by Strauss, Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov, and recording for Deutsche Gramophone, Musicom and EMI.

In addition to that of concertmaster and soloist, a great activity in chamber music has been added, collaborating with famous musicians such as Myung-Wung Chung, Alexander Lonquich, Boris Petruschansky, David Geringas, Mario Brunello and Veronica Hagen.

Founder and first violin of the Rome Quartet, he has played with this formation throughout Europe, the Far East and the United States, invited, among others, by the Festivals of Spoleto, Orlando (Holland), Neuschwanstein (Germany), Merano Music Weeks or Karintisher summer. With them he has recorded the 6 Mozart quartets dedicated to Haydn, the Verdi, Puccini and Mendelssohn quartets (Bottega Discantica), as well as the Mozart quintets with clarinet, Brahms (Bottega Discantica) Reger, Marteau, Coleridge-Taylor, Ben- Heim (Naxos) and Busoni (Bright).

With the Prometeo Quartet he has played in England, Switzerland, Germany, Spain and Armenia and at the Ravenna and Ravello Festivals, while with the Raffaello Trio he has released a CD with music by Dvorak and Smetana (Bottega Discantica).

He has also recorded for RAI, Radio Nacional de España, Cataluña Radio, Ermitage, Frequenz, Musikstrasse, RadioSvizzeraItaliana, Bayerischer Rundfunk and Deutschland Radio Berlin.
He conducts advanced courses and masterclasses in violin, chamber music and orchestra both in Italy and abroad and since 2007 he is editor of the instrumental technique column for the specialized magazine Archi Magazine.

He holds the chair of violin at the S. Cecilia Conservatory in Rome.

La historia de I Musici en realidad comienza un año antes, en 1951, cuando un grupo de jóvenes entusiastas y bien guiados y asesorados por sus excelentes maestros, se unieron con el deseo de estudiar y realzar el inmenso y bello repertorio de la música italiana del siglo XVIII, pero no sólo eso, sino de hacerlo con una característica única por aquel entonces -y también ahora-: tocar sin director. Fue un éxito rotundo inmediato. En pocos años I Musici se convirtió en el grupo de cámara más famoso del mundo, realizando numerosos conciertos y grabaciones que recibieron un sinfín de premios. Discos han grabado principalmente para Philips, pero más recientemente también para Sony, Epic, Warner, Foné, Dynamic, Deutsche Grammophon y Universal, representando un verdadero tesoro para los entusiastas amantes de la música de todo el mundo.

Hay una obra, por encima de otras muchas, que siempre se asocia con I MUSICI: Las Cuatro Estaciones de Vivaldi, que también, y sobre todo gracias a ellos, se convirtió en una de las composiciones más conocidas del mundo. Es el concertino de la formación desde 2019.

Tras los estudios realizados bajo la dirección de su madre Montserrat Cervera (miembro fundador de I MUSICI) Mila Costisella en Roma, Pavel Vernikov, Zinaida Gilels y Eugenia Chugajeva en Portogruaro y Viena, pronto se consolidó como uno de los concertinos más interesantes de su generación.

De 1996 a 2006 fue primer violín solista (concertino) de la Orquesta de la Academia Nacional de Santa Cecilia en Roma. Colaboró igualmente como concertino, entre otros, con la Orquesta del Teatro alla Scala de Milán, la Sinfónica Toscanini, la Orquesta de Chambre de Lausana, la Orquesta Sinfónica de Roma, la Orquesta de la Ópera de Roma y la Orquesta Sinfónica KBS de Seúl ( Corea)… trabajando junto con ilustres directores como Chung, Maazel, Pretre, Sawallisch, Temirkanov, Pappano, Tate, Dutoit, Fruhbeck de Burgos, Masur… y realizando numerosas giras por Europa, Japón, Corea y China, interpretando los más conocidos “solos” de Strauss, Bach, Beethoven, Chaikovsky y Rimsky-Korsakov, y grabando para Deutsche Gramophone, Musicom y EMI.

A la de concertino y solista se ha sumado una gran actividad de música de cámara colaborando con famosos músicos como Myung-Wung Chung, Alexander Lonquich, Boris Petruschansky, David Geringas, Mario Brunello y Veronica Hagen.

Con ellos ha grabado los 6 cuartetos de Mozart dedicados a Haydn, los cuartetos de Verdi, Puccini y Mendelssohn (Bottega Discantica), así como los quintetos de Mozart con clarinete, Brahms (Bottega Discantica) Reger, Marteau, Coleridge-Taylor, Ben- Heim (Naxos) y Busoni (Brillante).

Ocupa la cátedra de violín en el Conservatorio S. Cecilia de Roma.
