Count Almaviva has his eye on the pretty and not exactly poor Rosina. However, she is watched over like an eagle by her guardian Bartolo. Only the witty Figaro in combination with the obtuse singing teacher Basilio can help. In a turbulent game of appearances and reality, truth and twisted reality, there is flirting and cooing until the beams bend. And the magical, absurdly chaotic music with its wide arc of melody, vocal artistry and rhythmic pull draws you into its spell without asking.

Rossini's "Il barbiere di Siviglia" borders on the unbelievable several times: since its premiere in 1816, the opera has not only been one of the most successful and popular operas of all, it was also composed in just 11 days - Rossini was only 24 years old and had already written 17 other operas. Even if the audience in Rome in 1816 was still suspicious of Rossini’s “Barbiere” because the opera of the same name by the old master Giovanni Paisiello had previously been considered an indisputable hit with the audience, Rossini’s triumphal march in Italy could no longer be stopped after his “Barbiere di Siviglia” at the latest. And today, even those who don't like opera can sing along to Figaro's snappy »La-la-la-lera!«.
