Die Adventszeit ist heute weltweit ohne Bachs Weihnachtsoratorium undenkbar. Johann Sebastian Bach führte die von ihm geschriebenen sechs Kantaten zur Jahreswende 1734/35 erstmals in beiden Leipziger Hauptkirchen St. Nikolai und St. Thomas in den sechs Gottesdiensten innerhalb der zwei Wochen zwischen dem ersten Weihnachtsfeiertag und dem Dreikönigstag auf. Aufführungen an den Adventssonntagen wären undenkbar gewesen. Der Advent galt als Zeit stiller Einkehr und Buße. In unserer Zeit steht dieses Werk auch als ein Synonym für Freude, Glanz und Wärme in der dunkelsten Zeit des Jahres.

Zuvor hören Sie vom Vokalensemble Concentus Neukölln zwei weitere weihnachtliche Bach-Kantaten. Bei diesem Konzert werden Sie Studierende der Universität der Künste Berlin am Dirigentenpult erleben. Lassen Sie sich überraschen und mit Bachs Musik voller festlicher Freude und Innigkeit auf die Advents- und Weihnachtstage einstimmen.

Der Sinfonische Chor der Singakademie Potsdam konzertiert gemeinsam mit dem Vokalensemble Concentus Neukölln, dem Preußischen Kammerorchester Prenzlau und Solisten unter der Gesamtleitung von Thomas Hennig.

The Advent season is unthinkable worldwide today without Bach's Christmas Oratorio. Johann Sebastian Bach first performed the six cantatas he wrote at the turn of the year 1734/35 in both Leipzig's main churches, St. Nikolai and St. Thomas, in the six services within the two weeks between Christmas Day and Epiphany. Performances on the Sundays in Advent would have been unthinkable. Advent was considered a time of quiet contemplation and penance. In our time, this work also stands as a synonym for joy, splendor and warmth in the darkest time of the year.

Before that, you will hear two more Christmassy Bach cantatas from the vocal ensemble Concentus Neukölln. At this concert you will experience students from the Berlin University of the Arts at the conductor's podium. Let yourself be surprised and get in the mood for Advent and Christmas with Bach's music full of festive joy and intimacy.

The symphonic choir of the Singakademie Potsdam performs together with the vocal ensemble Concentus Neukölln, the Prussian Chamber Orchestra Prenzlau and soloists under the overall direction of Thomas Hennig.
