В Урал Оперу возвращается один из самых старых балетов в мире. В 1832 году «Сильфиду» поставил в Париже Филиппо Тальони. Его дочь Мария исполнила заглавную партию и после премьеры проснулась главной балериной планеты. Сильфида свела с ума не только героя спектакля, шотландца Джеймса, но и многих зрителей. Среди них был датский хореограф Август Бурнонвиль. Он решил перенести балет в родной Копенгаген, но музыкальная партитура оказалась слишком дорога для Королевского театра. Тогда Бурнонвиль заказал новую музыку и сочинил свою «Сильфиду». Спектакль Тальони погиб, а вариант Бурнонвиля датчане бережно хранили и в середине ХХ века открыли миру.

Авторы нынешней постановки выбрали радикально консервативный путь — «Сильфида», какой ее могли видеть в позапрошлом веке. Спектакль на основе хореографии Бурнонвиля возобновляет Елена Панкова, в прошлом ведущая солистка Мариинского театра, прима Баварского балета и Английского национального балета, ныне педагог-репетитор екатеринбургской труппы. Ее ассистенты также танцевали в Мариинском театре, где датская «Сильфида» исполняется больше сорока лет — экс-балерина театра Дарья Павленко и педагог Урал Балета Алексей Семёнов.

Художники Альона Пикалова и Елена Трубецкова ориентировались на спектакль Датского королевского балета, но «наполнили его деталями, переработали каждый фрагмент так, чтобы оформление было уникальным и связанным только с этой постановкой». Интерьер первого акта собран по историческим образцам, и даже у камина, в который улетает Сильфида, есть родословная. Волшебный лес второго акта — фантазия по мотивам живописных работ Уильяма Тёрнера и Джона Констебла, современников «Сильфиды».

One of the oldest ballets in the world is returning to the Ural Opera. In 1832, La Sylphide was staged in Paris by Filippo Taglioni. His daughter Maria sang the title role and after the premiere she woke up as the main ballerina of the planet. The sylph drove not only the hero of the play, the Scot James, crazy, but also many spectators. Among them was the Danish choreographer August Bournonville. He decided to move the ballet to his native Copenhagen, but the musical score was too expensive for the Royal Theatre. Then Bournonville ordered new music and composed his "Sylphide". The performance of Taglioni perished, but the Danes carefully preserved the version of Bournonville and opened it to the world in the middle of the 20th century.

The authors of the current production have chosen a radically conservative path - La Sylphide, as it could be seen in the century before last. The production based on Bournonville's choreography is being resumed by Elena Pankova, a former leading soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre, prima ballerina of the Bavarian Ballet and the English National Ballet, now a teacher-repetiteur of the Yekaterinburg company. Her assistants also danced at the Mariinsky Theatre, where the Danish La Sylphide has been performed for more than forty years - ex-ballerina of the theater Daria Pavlenko and Ural Ballet teacher Alexei Semyonov.

The artists Alona Pikalova and Elena Trubetskova were inspired by the performance of the Royal Danish Ballet, but "filled it with details, reworked each fragment so that the design was unique and associated only with this production." The interior of the first act is assembled according to historical patterns, and even the fireplace, into which the Sylph flies away, has a pedigree. The Enchanted Forest of Act II is a fantasy based on the paintings of William Turner and John Constable, contemporaries of La Sylphide.
