Un Instant d'Opéra - "La Traviata" de Verdi

After Rigoletto (1851) and Il Trovatore (January 1853), Giuseppe Verdi closed his famous “Popular Trilogy” with the creation, in March 1853, of La Traviata . On a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave inspired by La Dame aux camélias by Alexandre Dumas fils, Verdi composed dazzling music, sometimes powerful, sometimes intimate, which contains within it all the psychology of the characters. With La Traviata , Verdi produced a realistic opera on a contemporary subject: a path he would not take again in the rest of his long career.

Truth of feelings, evocative power of music, unstoppable dramaturgy: La Traviata moves and amazes us again and again.

In 2009, a brand new production of La Traviata , with sets and costumes by Edoardo Sanchi and Kaat Tilley, saw the light of day at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège, staged by Stefano Mazzonis di Pralafera.

Œuvre intemporelle et universelle, c’est dans cet « esprit 2009 » que cette mise en espace, reprise par Gianni Santucci, propose l’œuvre vue sous un autre jour :  plus épurée, comme un retour à l’essentiel, où chaque mouvement émane d’une idée pour en souligner le texte. Disposés sur scène et en salle, quelques éléments de décors, forts et symboliques, combinés à la projection d’images inédites matérialiseront l’atmosphère des lieux, colorée par un délicat jeu de lumières modulant les variations des atmosphères émotionnelles. Chaque personnage se parera de ses plus beaux atours pour s’incarner. Une Traviata fidèle à l’esprit qui lui a été insufflé, en hommage à son metteur en scène.

Under the baton of its Musical Director Speranza Scappucci , the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège welcomes, in the main roles, three artists familiar with its stages and its public: Patrizia Ciofi will play Violetta Valéry, Alfredo Germont will be interpreted by Dmitry Korchak and Giorgio Germont by Giovanni Meoni . To complete the cast, we will find the Belgian soloists Caroline de Mahieu , Julie Bailly , Pierre Derhet , Samuel Namotte and Roger Joakim .

Après Rigoletto (1851) et Il Trovatore (janvier 1853), Giuseppe Verdi clôture sa fameuse « Trilogie populaire » avec la création, en mars 1853, de La Traviata. Sur un livret de Francesco Maria Piave inspiré de La Dame aux camélias d’Alexandre Dumas fils, Verdi compose une musique éblouissante, tantôt puissante, tantôt intime, qui contient en elle toute la psychologie des personnages. Avec La Traviata, Verdi produit un opéra réaliste, sur un sujet contemporain : un chemin qu’il n’empruntera plus dans la suite de sa longue carrière.

Vérité des sentiments, puissance évocatrice de la musique, dramaturgie imparable : La Traviata nous émeut et nous émerveille encore et toujours.

Sous la baguette de sa Directrice musicale Speranza Scappucci, l’Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège accueille, dans les rôles principaux, trois artistes familiers de ses planches et de son public : Patrizia Ciofi incarnera Violetta Valéry, Alfredo Germont sera interprété par Dmitry Korchak et Giorgio Germont par Giovanni Meoni. Pour compléter la distribution, nous retrouverons les solistes belges Caroline de Mahieu, Julie Bailly, Pierre Derhet, Samuel Namotte et Roger Joakim.
