Louis XIV was a King of Music: all of the works composed for his "official" life clearly demonstrate this, with the Lyric Tragedies by Lully, the Carrousels and Fanfares de plein air, the Symphonies for the King's Soupers by Lalande, the Grands Motets at the Royal Chapel... But who knows the intimate music of the Sun King?

In the evening, the private apartment has its own compositions, played by the best instrumentalists of the court. The harpsichord, the viola da gamba and the lute take precedence over drums and trumpets; the most magnificent singers stand a few meters from the sovereign, even in his bedroom, to give him a little more musical beauty that will feed his royal dreams... We would be around 1705, Lalande as superintendent of music would have brought together some musicians "requested by the King": Marin Marais, Robert de Visée, Michel de la Barre, Antoine Forqueray, to come after the Grand Coucher, to present Louis with a last moment of music, informal and intimate. For this unprecedented evening, Thibaut Roussel has brought together the best musicians in the service of a resurrection of these Couchers du Roi. L' recording of this programme, produced at the Château for the Château de Versailles Spectacles collection, will be released simultaneously with the concert. An exceptional moment in perspective...
