Het Groot Omroepkoor met de Britse chef-dirigent Benjamin Goodson maakt zijn debuut in het Muziekgebouw met een exemplarisch programma met a-capellakoormuziek van Poulenc, Mendelssohn, Daniel-Lesur en Frank Martin. De Mis voor dubbelkoor is een van de meest uitgevoerde en beste composities van de Zwitsers-Nederlandse componist Martin, die 50 jaar geleden in Naarden overleed. Het prachtige Agnus Dei uit die Mis klinkt als een innige roep om vrede. 

Met ruim zestig vocalisten is het Groot Omroepkoor het enige professioneel opererende koor van deze omvang in Nederland. Sinds de oprichting in 1945 is het koor niet weg te denken in het Nederlandse muziekleven. Het zingt de koorpartijen in de grote concertseries van de Nederlandse Publieke Omroep en is vrijwel wekelijks te horen in live concerten via de radio. Het koor bracht talloze premières van de belangrijkste componisten van onze tijd, waaronder Boulez, Ligeti en Messiaen. Hoog tijd dus voor een debuut in de serie Koren van dé Nederlandse zaal voor hedendaagse muziek.

With the program 'Like a prayer', the Groot Omroepkoor is part of the International Top Choirs series of Muziekgebouw Frits Philips in Eindhoven. Francis Poulenc was, in his own words, 'Half monk, half bad boy'. Now we hear that more religious side of him in the Ave verum corpus . Mendelssohn was also a religious man and often knew how to express himself most sincerely in his motets. Also on the program is the Mass for double choirby the Swiss/Dutch Frank Martin. Double chorus is a special experience, a practice that originated in the Renaissance in the Venetian San Marco church. This Mass had a somewhat shadowy existence for a long time. Already composed in 1926, the composer held back the work for a long time. Since the play has been released to the public, it has enjoyed enormous popularity and has been released on CD dozens of times. Martin himself called the work a private affair, between himself and the Creator. A private matter that can be made public very nicely.
