The heroes of mythology must undoubtedly obey fate. The higher powers speak from them. What is an individual there anyway? In a naive reading, the world in Wagner's “Lohengrin” seems to be well sorted. The Führer principle including war and violence (King Heinrich and Lohengrin) is not called into question. But the core of Wagner's Lohengrin drama is above all the prohibition of the all-important question. The hero Lohengrin, who comes from higher spheres, saves Elsa from the indictment, but ties this to his exclusive condition: Elsa is not allowed to ask who he is. Aren't Ortrud and Telramund, whom Wagner shows as a demonic intriguing couple, right when they advise Elsa to ask this central question about his origins? Isn't Elsa's question also open criticism of an unreflective leader myth,
