Schon zu Lebzeiten war sie ein Mythos, ihr tragischer Tod 1917 vor den Flinten eines Erschießungskommandos machte sie vollends zur Legende: Mit 19 brach Margaretha Geertruida »Griet« Zelle aus der niederländischen Provinz auf, um die Welt zu erobern. Den Kopf voller Träume, versuchte sie sich als Offiziersgattin und Mutter auf Java. Doch sie wollte mehr – und wurde zu einer der berühmtesten Frauen ihrer Zeit. Als schamlos-moderne Rebellin gegen Grenzen und Regeln, als exzentrische Diva auf Europas Bühnen, als Männerfantasie und schließlich als Doppelspionin: Mata Hari!

Bis heute umgibt ein dichtes Netz aus Sage und Fiktion die Figur »Mata Hari«. In ihrem brandneuen Musical machen sich Marc Schubring und Kevin Schroeder auf eine spannende musiktheatrale Spurensuche, wie Griet zu Mata Hari wurde und transportieren den Mythos ins Hier und Jetzt. Als klassisches Book-Musical UND modernes Pop-Event, für das das Theater zum Dancefloor wird, spüren sie einer Frau nach, die – ihrer Zeit weit voraus – besessen von Aufmerksamkeit, Show und Selbstverwirklichung war und »alternative Fakten« zuhauf schuf. As a classic book musical AND a modern pop event, for which the theater becomes a dance floor, they track down a woman who - far ahead of her time - was obsessed with attention, show and self-realization and created »alternative facts« in abundance. But what is a lie? What truth?
