High society in London has traveled to the country to spend the summer at the Harefords' castle. There is great excitement there: the family lawyer has finally managed to locate the long-missing heir. It is young Bill Snibson, the offspring of an improper marriage between the late Duke and a commoner. Bill grew up in modest circumstances in London's working-class Lambeth - hardly the right person to inherit the glorious noble family. Nevertheless, Duchess Mary takes the uncouth boy into the castle and begins a re-education program. The "cockney gentleman" Bill proves to be a tough nut to crack: Instead of learning the fine English way,

 

Twenty years before My Fair Lady , Noel Gay wrote Me and My Girl , the hit musical of the 1930s, and skewered the class differences in British society with subtle English humor. In the 1980s there was a new version, which was also extremely successful and brought it to a proud 3303 performances in London's West End. Stephen Fry wrote the book and starred Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson. The most famous songs include "Love Makes the World Go Round", "Once You Lose Your Heart", "Leaning on a Lamppost" and of course the famous "Lambeth Walk".
