With their 1956 broadway musical „My Fair Lady“ Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's melodies „The Rain in Spain“ or „I could have danced all night“ went round the world. The story tells of phonetician Henry Higgins who turns penniless flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a society lady. The professor stubbornly resists falling in love with his „creation“.

The ancient Greeks already told the legend of the sculptor Pygmalion, who created a statue of a woman of such overwhelming beauty that he fell hopelessly in love with her. Aphrodite was merciful, brought the statue to life and gave it to Pygmalion in marriage. George Bernard Shaw transformed the ancient material into the enchanting comedy Pygmalion, which served as the basis for Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's 1956 hit musical "My Fair Lady".
