C’est l’une des plus belles partitions religieuses du compositeur de Samson et Dalila. Camille Saint-Saëns nimbe la musique de cette grande cantate écrite pour le temps de Noël d’une lumière à la fois naïve, sincère et fervente pour mieux exprimer sa foi catholique, mais aussi sa foi en la musique. Il n’est encore qu’un jeune homme quand il en dirige la création, le 24 décembre 1858.

Mais ce premier oratorio, qui s’ouvre par un prélude « dans le style de Bach », révèle tout à la fois la science et l’inspiration d’un musicien qui fera encore parler de lui soixante ans plus tard ! Le Chœur d'Angers Nantes Opéra se joint à celui de la cathédrale de Nantes pour ce concert exceptionnel en la basilique Saint-Nicolas.

It is one of the most beautiful religious scores by the composer of Samson and Delilah . Camille Saint-Saëns halos the music of this great cantata written for Christmas time with a naive, sincere and fervent light to better express his Catholic faith, but also his faith in music. He was still only a young man when he directed its creation on December 24, 1858.

But this first oratorio, which opens with a prelude "in the style of Bach", reveals both the science and the inspiration of a musician who will still be talked about sixty years later! The Choir of Angers Nantes Opéra joins that of Nantes Cathedral for this exceptional concert in the Basilica of Saint-Nicolas.
