It is assumed that Vivaldi composed around fifty operas, but only a dozen have come down to us today. His Orlando furioustaken from Ariosto dates from the 1720s, undoubtedly the musician's most exciting decade. Jean-Christophe Spinosi is one of those who have ardently defended the lyrical catalog of Le Prêtre roux for a long time. His 2004 recording published by Naïve then the stage version here by Pierre Audi was for many a revelation of this repertoire. It must be said that these two stages revealed a distribution that would since ignite the lyrical stages, in particular Marie-Nicole Lemieux and Philippe Jaroussky. Nearly 20 years later, Jean-Christophe Spinosi rediscovers this work as the "cornerstone" of his career, notably with one of his favorite performers, the Quebec contralto Marie-Nicole Lemieux, who here "swaps" the role of Orlando for that of the manipulative Angelica.Orlando furioso is one of the most beautiful specimens of the Vivaldian operatic laboratory.

On suppose que Vivaldi a composé une cinquantaine d’opéra mais seule une petite dizaine nous est parvenue de nos jours. Son Orlando furioso tiré de l’Arioste date des années 1720, sans aucun doute la décennie la plus passionnante du musicien. Jean-Christophe Spinosi fait partie de ceux qui défendent ardemment depuis longtemps le catalogue lyrique du Prêtre roux. Son enregistrement de 2004 publié par Naïve puis la version scénique ici-même signée Pierre Audi avaient été pour beaucoup une révélation de ce répertoire. Il faut dire que ces deux étapes révélaient une distribution qui allait depuis enflammer les scènes lyriques, notamment Marie-Nicole Lemieux et Philippe Jaroussky. Près de 20 ans après, Jean-Christophe Spinosi retrouve cet ouvrage « pierre angulaire » de son parcours avec notamment l’un de ses interprètes fétiches, la contralto québécoise Marie-Nicole Lemieux qui « troque » ici le rôle d’Orlando pour celui de la manipulatrice Angelica. Peinture fascinante des sentiments les plus tendres comme les plus douloureux, Orlando furioso est l’un des plus beaux spécimens du laboratoire opératique vivaldien.
