This “opera after Wagner and not after Wagner”, as Debussy liked to define it, is deliberately set out of fashion with its haunting and singular music, where the inflections of the song reveal the soul and the emotions of the characters.

In the imaginary kingdom of Allemonde, Prince Golaud meets the beautiful and mysterious Mélisande, whom he marries without knowing anything about her. But between his half-brother Pelléas and the young woman a secret bond quickly forges which arouses his jealousy ... Inspired by the play by Maurice Maeterlinck, which was itself a transposition of the myth of Tristan and Yseult, this opera by Debussy (the only one that he has completed and brought to the stage), carries his characters in the mists of a waking dream, bathed in a sensual atmosphere and an elusive beauty.
