In 1745, Louis XV selected the comedy about an ugly nymph, enticed to believe that Jupiter, the king of the gods, has fallen in love with her, as one of the three operas for the celebrations of his son’s wedding to the Infanta María Teresa of Spain. Given that the bride is said to have been no beauty, we can speculate as to whether the choice of Rameau’s opera was the monarch’s spiteful prank – if that indeed was the case, it was fitting (and improper) for other reasons too. Platée not only pokes fun at a foolish, graceless sprite, it also ridicules the “holy” social institute of matrimony: the pathologically jealous wives and the timid yet resourceful husbands, who, albeit being Olympian gods, face diverse partnership troubles …

Our production has been undertaken by the SKUTR stage directors’ tandem, who drew inspiration from the fact that the world premiere of Rameau’s Platée took place within a wedding, as well as the opera’s allegoric Prologue, in which Comedy engenders from wine ...

Komedii o šeredné nymfě, která si nechá namluvit, že ji miluje sám nejvyšší bůh Jupiter, si v roce 1745 vybral spolu se dvěma jinými operami francouzský panovník Ludvík XV. k oslavám sňatku svého syna se španělskou infantkou Marií Teresou, o níž se proslýchá, že prý příliš krásy nepobrala. O tom, zda měla být volba Rameauovy Platée záměrně jakýmsi poťouchlým žertem budoucího infantčina tchána, se můžeme jen dohadovat. Pokud tomu tak bylo, pak byla králova dramaturgická volba skutečně trefná (a značně nekorektní) i z jiných důvodů. Rameauova Platée si totiž nedělá legraci jen z jedné víly-ošklivky, nýbrž také ze samotné „posvátné“ společenské instituce: z chorobně žárlivých manželek a ovšem i z bázlivých, a proto velmi vynalézavých manželů, jimž se nejrůznější partnerské trable nevyhýbají, ani když jsou sami olympskými
bohy...

Režisérská dvojice SKUTR, která stojí za naší inscenací, se inspirovala jednak zmíněnou okolností, že se světová premiéra Rameauovy Platée odehrála na svatbě, ale také alegorickým prologem k této opeře, v němž se z vína zrodí Komedie...

Přijďte se tedy podívat, co všechno se může na jedné „barokní“ svatbě stát.
