XX a. vokiečių kompozitoriaus Carlo Orffo kantata „Carmina Burana“ – vienas įspūdingiausių pasaulio muzikos šedevrų. Kūriniui kompozitorius pasirinko dvidešimt keturis XI–XIII a. eilėraščius lotynų ir viduriniąja vokiečių aukštaičių kalbomis iš 1803 m. Bojerno benediktinų vienuolyne (Benediktbeuern, Vokietija) atrasto rankraščio „Codex Buranus“. Kantatos tekstuose paliečiama daugelis iki šiol savo svarbos nepraradusių temų: sėkmės ir turtų nepastovumas, greita gyvenimo tėkmė, grįžtančio pavasario džiaugsmas ir trumpalaikiai malonumai, kuriuos teikia girtavimas, gausus maistas, azartiniai žaidimai ir kūniška meilė. Išraiškinga, siautulinga, kartais lyriška ir geidulinga C. Orffo muzika pažadina kiekviename mūsų slypinčius muzikinius instinktus ir jusles. Šios muzikos magijai abejingu likti tiesiog negali.



Sceninės kantatos „Carmina Burana“ premjera įvyko Frankfurto prie Maino operoje 1937 m. Jai atlikti reikia didžiulių pajėgų ir aukštos atlikimo technikos. Kūrinys sukurtas dideliam ir neįprastos sudėties orkestrui (su dviem fortepijonais ir išplėsta mušamųjų grupe), dvigubos sudėties mišriam ir vaikų chorams, trim solistams: sopranui, baritonui ir tenorui. Kantatoje kompozitorius tarsi žaidžia judesiu, garsu, šokiu, daina ir vaizdine scenos magija. C. Orffas siekė jungtinio sceninių įspūdžių poveikio žiūrovui. „Carmina Burana“ - kūrinys sulaukęs gausybės žanrinių interpretacijų, grotas, dainuotas, vaidintas ir šoktas visuose pasaulio žemynuose. 



Žymiosios kantatos sceninis atlikimas pakeis keletą metų elingo teritorijoje žiūrovus džiuginusią R. Wagnerio operos „Skrajojantis olandas“ inscenizaciją. Bene žinomiausia kantatos „Carmina Burana“ dalis – pakilus choras „O Fortuna“, pradedantis ir užbaigiantis kūrinį, taps triumfuojančiais šaukiniais, pažymint Klaipėdos krašto prijungimo prie Lietuvos 100-mečio jubiliejų. Kantatą atliks KVMT simfoninis orkestras ir choras drauge su vienu profesionaliausių Lietuvos chorų – Kauno valstybiniu choru. Išskirtinio virtuoziškumo, itin plataus balso diapazono ir ypatingos artistinės raiškos reikalaujančias vokalines partijas spektaklyje atliks KVMT solistai Rita Petrauskaitė (sopranas) ir Farshad Abbasabadi (baritonas) bei Lietuvos ir užsienio scenose vaidmenis kuriantis tenoras Mindaugas Jankauskas.



Kantatos režisierius Dalius Abaris Klaipėdos festivalyje vyksiantį pasirodymą vadina videografiniu spektakliu. Pasak jo, žiūrovus turėtų stebinti spektaklio visuma: „dinamiška ir efektinga C. Orffo muzika, milžiniškos senojo elingo konstrukcijos, įspūdingo dydžio choras, teatro orkestras, solistai, šokėjai. Jau vien to pakaktų, kad „Carmina Burana“ kurtų įspūdį. Drauge su talentingaisiais talkininkais – scenografe Sigita Šimkūnaite, kostiumų dailininke Sandra Straukaite, vaizdo projekcijų dailininku Martynu Norvaišu ir šviesų dailininku Andriumi Stasiuliu – pasistengsime šią visumą suvaldyti ir įvilkti į viską apjungiantį rūbą“. Klaipėdos elinge statomame videografiniame spektaklyje vienu svarbiausių personažų tampa šiandienos visuomenė – nuo turtingiausių iki skurdžiausių visuomenės sluoksnių. Kuriant spektaklio scenografiją ir kostiumus pritaikyti tvaraus antrinio dizaino principai.

A video performance based on Carl Orff's stage cantata of the same name



20th century The cantata "Carmina Burana" by the German composer Carl Orff is one of the most impressive masterpieces of world music. For the work, the composer chose twenty-four 11th-13th century. poems in Latin and Middle High German from 1803 Codex Buranus of the manuscript discovered in the Benedictine monastery of Bojern (Benediktbeuern, Germany). The texts of the cantata touch on many themes that have not lost their relevance to this day: the impermanence of luck and wealth, the rapid flow of life, the joy of the return of spring and the fleeting pleasures of drinking, rich food, gambling and carnal love. Expressive, frantic, sometimes lyrical and sensual, C. Orff's music awakens the musical instincts and senses hidden in each of us. You simply cannot remain indifferent to the magic of this music.



The stage cantata "Carmina Burana" premiered at the Frankfurt am Main Opera House in 1937. It requires great strength and high performance technique. The piece was created for a large and unusual composition orchestra (with two pianos and an extended percussion group), a double composition for mixed and children's choirs, three soloists: soprano, baritone and tenor. In a cantata, the composer seems to play with movement, sound, dance, song and the visual magic of the stage. C. Orff aimed for a combined effect of stage impressions on the viewer. "Carmina Burana" is a work that has received many genre interpretations, played, sung, acted and danced on all continents of the world. 



The stage performance of the famous cantata will replace the production of R. Wagner's opera "The Flying Dutchman", which has pleased the audience in Elinga for several years. Perhaps the most famous part of the cantata "Carmina Burana" is the rising chorus "O Fortuna", which begins and ends the work, and will become a triumphant rallying cry, marking the 100th anniversary of the annexation of the Klaipėda region to Lithuania. The cantata will be performed by the KVMT symphony orchestra and choir together with one of the most professional Lithuanian choirs - the Kaunas State Choir. Vocal parts requiring exceptional virtuosity, an extremely wide voice range and special artistic expression will be performed in the performance by KVMT soloists Rita Petrauskaitė (soprano) and Farshad Abbasabadi (baritone) and tenor Mindaugas Jankauskas, who creates roles on Lithuanian and foreign stages.



Cantata director Dalius Abaris calls the performance at the Klaipėda festival a videographic performance. According to him, the audience should be surprised by the performance as a whole: "dynamic and effective music by C. Orff, the huge constructions of the old boathouse, the choir of impressive size, the theater orchestra, soloists, dancers." That alone would be enough to impress Carmina Burana. Together with the talented assistants - scenographer Sigita Šimkūnaite, costume designer Sandra Straukaite, video projection artist Martynas Norvaiš and light artist Andrius Stasiulis - we will try to control this whole and wrap it in a garment that unites everything". Today's society - from the richest to the poorest strata of society - becomes one of the most important characters in the video performance staged in the Klaipėda boathouse. The principles of sustainable secondary design were applied in the creation of the scenography and costumes of the performance.
