Jeugdopera naar het boek van Toon Tellegen (6+)
De eenzame mol besluit een lied te schrijven om de maan op te vrolijken. De sprinkhaan repeteert met zijn orkest tot ze het lied helemaal onder de knie hebben en op een nacht geven ze een prachtig concert. Maar waarom kijkt de maan daarna zo triest?

‘My first opera’
Een lied voor de maan is gebaseerd op het gelijknamige boek van Toon Tellegen, een fabel over de kracht van muziek. Componist Mathilde Wantenaar bewerkte het verhaal tot een heerlijke ‘my first opera’ voor jonge bezoekers en hun ouders. Een toegankelijke en gelaagde voorstelling die precies doet waar het verhaal over gaat: ontroeren via muziek.

Toen Mathilde Wantenaar begon te lezen in Toon Tellegens boek, raakte ze gegrepen: “Het verhaal sprak meteen tot mijn muzikale verbeelding. Er komen belangrijke thema’s aan bod, zoals eenzaamheid, identiteit, teleurstelling en vriendschap. Het is ook een stuk over de kracht van muziek en de mogelijkheid om contact met elkaar te maken.” Wantenaar leerde regisseur Béatrice Lachaussée en scenograaf Nele Ellegiers kennen tijdens een workshop van ENOA, een Europees netwerk voor talentontwikkeling waar DNO deel van uitmaakt. In hun gesprekken werd het idee voor deze jeugdopera geboren.

The lonely Mole decides to write a song to cheer up the Moon. The Grasshopper rehearses with his orchestra until they have mastered the song and then one night they give an amazing concert. But why does the Moon look so sad afterwards...?

‘My first opera’
A Song for the Moon is based on Toon Tellegen’s book of the same name, a fable about the power of music. Composer Mathilde Wantenaar has turned the story into a lovely ‘My first opera’ for a young audience and their parents. It is an accessible yet multi-layered production that does just what the story says: it moves people through its music.

When Mathilde Wantenaar read Toon Tellegen’s book A Song for the Moon, she was captivated. “The story appealed to my musical imagination. It deals with important topics such as loneliness, identity, disappointment and friendship. It is also about the power of music and the ability to make contact with one another.” Wantenaar got to know stage director Béatrice Lachaussée and set designer Nele Ellegiers during a workshop organised by ENOA, a European talent development network that DNO is involved in. During their conversations, the idea for this children’s opera was born.
