O Fortuna. Everyone knows the overwhelmingly powerful opening motifs of Carl Orff's most famous work. What fewer people know is that Carmina Burana was not intended to be an oratorical work, but was instead expressly meant for the stage. This becomes clear from the piece's (originally Latin) subtitle: “Secular songs for singers and chorus to be sung together with instruments and magical images.”
Over the course of the many times he has conducted the work, Tibor Bogányi gradually developed a vision for a staged version. The creators conceived a breathtaking spectacle to surround the three soloists, the three dancers from the Hungarian National Ballet and the monumental 120-strong chorus on the stage of the Erkel Theatre, with the 3D “magical images” coming to life on six projection displays and LED walls.

O Fortuna. Carl Orff leghíresebb művének elsöprő erejű kezdőmotívumait mindenki ismeri. Azt azonban már kevesen tudják, hogy a Carmina Burana nem oratorikus mű, hanem kimondottan színpadra szánt alkotás. Ez a darab latin nyelvű alcíméből is világosan kiderül: „világi dalok szólóénekesekre és kórusra, hangszerkísérettel és mágikus képekkel”.
Bogányi Tibor számos alkalommal dirigálta már a művet, és lassanként egy szcenizált előadás víziója született meg benne. A három szólista, a Magyar Nemzeti Balett három művésze és a monumentális, közel 100 fős énekkar köré lélegzetelállító látványt álmodtak az alkotók az Erkel színpadára: hat projektoron és LED-falakon elevenednek majd meg a 3D-s „mágikus képek”. Az előadást hagyományosan egyfajta középkori „ráhangolódás” vezeti be, 2025-től Orff műve előtt saját munkája, a Carmina Burana testvéreként később komponált Catulli Carmina szólal meg, Catullus versekre. E rövidebb, de szertelenebb darab részleteit a Magyar Állami Operaház Énekkarának és Zenekarának szólistái keltik életre.
