Le compositeur George Benjamin et le dramaturge Martin Crimp ont marqué l’histoire récente de l’opéra avec la création triomphale en 2012 de Written on Skin, présenté depuis dans le monde entier. Après deux œuvres « grand format », ils ont souhaité renouer pour leur quatrième opus avec la souplesse expressive de l’opéra de chambre. Nourri par diverses traditions littéraires et philosophiques, Picture a day like this est une fable initiatique sur la nature humaine, racontée au fil d’une mosaïque narrative et musicale aux couleurs changeantes. Daniel Jeanneteau et Marie-Christine Soma en signent une mise en scène bouleversante, à la frontière entre réalisme et onirisme. Un concentré d’émotion pure, confié à Alphonse Cemin, fin connaisseur de la musique de Benjamin.

Composer George Benjamin and playwright Martin Crimp marked the recent history of opera with the triumphant creation in 2012 of Written on Skin, which has since been presented around the world. After two “large format” works, they wanted to reconnect for their fourth opus with the expressive flexibility of chamber opera. Nourished by various literary and philosophical traditions, Picture a day like this is an initiatory fable about human nature, told through a narrative and musical mosaic of changing colors. Daniel Jeanneteau and Marie-Christine Soma create a moving production, on the border between realism and dreamlike. A concentrate of pure emotion, entrusted to Alphonse Cemin, a fine connoisseur of Benjamin's music.
