During Purcell Gala 1 you will be taken through the London of the seventeenth century. Short texts and small actions on stage make the link between very varied pieces of music. Purcell's unprecedented versatility is overwhelming: theater music, dance music and scabrous café songs. In addition to beautiful concert arias and odes, Purcell is at home in all markets. Take, for example, the peasant brass bands and the ingenious chaconnes. In Purcell Gala 1 , five singers and ten baroque instrumentalists together create a (sound) image for the brilliant 'British Orpheus'.

Tijdens Purcell Gala 1 wordt u meegenomen door het Londen van de zeventiende eeuw. Korte teksten en kleine acties op het toneel leggen de link tussen zeer afwisselende muziekstukken. Purcell's ongekende veelzijdigheid is overrompelend: theatermuziek, dansmuziek en scabreuze café-songs. Naast prachtige concertaria's en odes is Purcell van alle markten thuis. Neem bijvoorbeeld de boertige fanfares en de ingenieuze chaconnes. In Purcell Gala 1 richten vijf zangers en een tiental barokinstrumentalisten samen een (klank)beeld op voor de geniale 'Britse Orpheus'.
