Where are the days when the Austrian national football team was dubbed the "miracle team"? That was in the early 1930s. In March 1937, an Austrian (and thanks to the composer influenced by Hungarian) vaudeville operetta named after it celebrated its acclaimed premiere at the Theater an der Wien.

But who is Roxy? The niece of a Scottish mixed-pickles manufacturer who is fleeing her own wedding and prefers to follow the Hungarian team (and in particular the dashing centre-forward Gjurka) to the Lake Balaton training camp. It gets turbulent when the inmates of a girls' boarding school meet the young athletes. In these circumstances, will the men be able to win the decider against England?

As with Benatzky's “Axel an der Himmelstür”, the Vienna Volksoper breathes new life into Paul Abraham's “Roxy und ihr Wunderteam”, a spirited masterpiece from the late period of operetta.
