The exceptional young Polish violinist Maria Wloszczowska has made many friends at Lammermuir Festival and we look forward to her performing what many regard as the greatest violin concerto of all.

The Royal Northern Sinfonia and their Principal Conductor Dinis Sousa end the programme with the majestic symphony that Schumann wrote not long after he arrived as Music Director in Düsseldorf. Inspired by the great river Rhine, the magnificent landscape through which it flows and by the great gothic cathedral of Cologne, he took only five weeks to complete the ‘Rhenish’ Symphony. Its exuberant richness of invention is irresistible.
