Dorothy lebt mit Tante Em und Onkel Henry auf einer Farm im öden Kansas und träumt davon, was hinter dem Regenbogen liegt. Eines Tages wird das kleine Farmhäuschen mitsamt Dorothy von einem Wirbelsturm weggerissen. Dorothy landet im zauberhaften Land Oz. Bei der Rückkehr in die Heimat kann ihr nur der mächtige Zauberer von Oz in der fernen Smaragdstadt helfen. Auf dem Weg die gelbe Steinstraße entlang trifft sie eine Vogelscheuche, einen Blechmann und einen Löwen, die ihr beistehen. Da auch die böse Hexe des Westens ihr Unwesen in Oz treibt, sind gute Freunde unverzichtbar.

L. Frank Baums Kinderbuchklassiker aus dem Jahr 1900 wurde vielfach weitergesponnen oder bearbeitet. Eine ohrwurmträchtige musikalische Interpretation erfuhr der Stoff 1939 durch den legendären MGM-Film mit Judy Garland, dessen Hits auch Grundlage für die Musicalfassung der Royal Shakespeare Company wurden. Dorothy lives on a farm in barren Kansas with Aunt Em and Uncle Henry and dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day, the small farmhouse is swept away by a hurricane, along with Dorothy. Dorothy ends up in the magical land of Oz. Only the powerful Wizard of Oz in the distant Emerald City can help her return home. On her way down the yellow stone road, she meets a scarecrow, a tin man and a lion who help her. Since the Wicked Witch of the West is also on the loose in Oz, good friends are essential.

L. Frank Baum's classic children's book from 1900 has been expanded or edited many times. The material experienced a catchy musical interpretation in 1939 through the legendary MGM film with Judy Garland, whose hits also became the basis for the musical version of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Look forward to hits like »Behind the Rainbow«, »Ding Dong! The witch is dead«, »The yellow stone path« and »Now we go to the magician« and a fantastic show with a large musical ensemble, dancers, the opera choir and the children's and youth choir!
