Simon Stone, internationally renowned director, whose plays Flight 49 (2021) and John Gabriel Borkman (2017) have been seen by Luxembourg audiences, returns to the Théâtres de la Ville with Richard Wagner's absolute masterpiece, Tristan und Isolde , which he puts back at the heart of the most immediate contemporaneity, while bringing out its mythical and sacred dimension. The myth of Tristan and Iseult, one of the most important in Western culture, tells of a reciprocal love, adultery, which a magic potion makes irrepressible, and which can only find its fulfillment in death, in the "Liebestod". . Wagner's "infinite melody", this fabric of motifs alternating paroxysms and respites like the haunting waves of passion, is performed by the Orchester Philharmonique du Luxembourg, under the direction of Stefan Soltesz.

Le mythe de Tristan et Iseult, l’un des plus importants de la culture occidentale, raconte un amour réciproque, adultère, qu’un breuvage magique rend irrépressible, et qui ne peut trouver son accomplissement que dans la mort, dans le « Liebestod ». La « mélodie infinie » de Wagner, ce tissu de motifs alternant paroxysmes et répits à l’image des vagues lancinantes de la passion, est prise en charge par l’Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, sous la direction de Stefan Soltesz.
