The premiere staging of the Varna State Opera "Masked Ball" carries the recognizable style of the Spanish artistic tandem Ignacio Cristia and Iago Blasi, which deals with audiovisual art, design of museum exhibitions and has a remarkable presence in the European Opera House. The two are implementing several projects to promote the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, ​​preparing pavilions for participation in the biennial, are authors of the exhibition "Columns of Europe" at the British Museum and others. They created the sets for the "Magic Flute" for the Austrian Association of Friends of the Oviedo Opera and the costumes for the ballet "The Badly Guarded Girl" for the Polish State Opera in Wroclaw.
In the latest stage version of "Masked Ball" on the Varna stage, Ignacy Christia, in addition to his virtuoso work with space, for the first time also appears as a director.
Masked Ball is a great opera. The characters have a great responsibility and they are all people with a mission. Verdi's opera is so well constructed that it is a kaleidoscopic structure. In other words, you can present the production from different points of view. We can make a staging by focusing on Amelia's point of view, Ricardo's point of view, Ulrika's point of view. Everyone would give us a different version, even though the score is the same. This is the greatness of a well-written work. Verdi allows the director to read his work from many points of view.
