“Winterreise” (Winter Journey) is a cycle of 24 lieder by Franz Schubert (1797-1828) on poems by Wilhelm Müller (1794-1827). The cycle was originally composed for tenor and piano, so this version, conducted by Joan Anton Rechi, recovers the original register and tonal color. Schubert composed it in the last year of his life, already ill, impoverished, subsisting on charity.

The work describes with melancholy a tragic vision of existence. It deals with themes such as unrequited love, heartbreak or sadness; also hope and courage, but always within an atmosphere of desolation. This environment of great emotional impact is represented in this show through a cemetery of ice tombs and will-o'-the-wisps that connect the viewer not only auditorily and visually, but also emotionally.
