After a prestigious Dame blanche presented last season in Quimper, director Louise Vignaud and chef Nicolas Simon are continuing their collaboration by adapting Mozart's Zaïde. A partly unfinished youthful work, this philosophical musical tale conceals many surprises, right up to its ultimate twist.

In keeping with the taste of the time, the plot takes place in the East. Two Christian slaves of Sultan Soliman, Zaïde and Gomatz, fall in love and try to escape with the help of an accomplice servant. Captured and arrested, can they escape death? Louise Vignaud to choose. This opera seria having never been finished by its author, the director has carte blanche to imagine the before and after of this romantic plot. Maintaining the suspense, it announces a lesson in humanism written by Mozart who readily turns to farce. Tested in an unknown world, the two heroes go towards the light. But it is also a very human initiation story, with its share of adventures and intrigues. We eagerly await this rarely staged opera, which has the charm and mystery of a little-known work.

Après une prestigieuse Dame blanche présentée la saison passée à Quimper, la metteuse en scène Louise Vignaud et le chef Nicolas Simon poursuivent leur collaboration en adaptant Zaïde de Mozart. Œuvre de jeunesse en partie inachevée, ce conte musical philosophique recèle bien des surprises, jusqu’à son ultime rebondissement.

Conformément au goût de l’époque, l’intrigue se déroule en Orient. Deux esclaves chrétiens du sultan Soliman, Zaïde et Gomatz, tombent amoureux et tentent de s’enfuir aidés par un serviteur complice. Repris et arrêtés, pourront-ils échapper à la mort ? À Louise Vignaud de choisir. Cet opera seria n’ayant jamais été terminé par son auteur, la metteuse en scène a carte blanche pour imaginer l’avant et l’après de cette intrigue romanesque. Ménageant le suspense, elle annonce une leçon d’humanisme écrite par Mozart qui se tourne volontiers vers la farce. Mis à l’épreuve dans un monde inconnu, les deux héros vont vers la lumière. Mais c’est aussi un récit d’initiation très humain, avec son lot de péripéties et d’intrigues. On attend avec gourmandise cet opéra rarement monté, qui a le charme et le mystère d’une oeuvre méconnue. Aux côtés des quatre chanteurs et chanteuses sur scène, d’une comédienne narratrice, le chef Nicolas Simon dirige dans la fosse les musiciens de l’Orchestre national de Bretagne.
