Biography
Known for his “virile sound” and “reliable technique,” Opera News exclaims Reuben L. Lillie “graces his music with an intrinsically attractive timbre.” The Pennsylvania-born, Chicago-based tenor produces a sound that is both “vibrant and penetrating,” according to Chicago Classical Review. Reuben’s 2023 season began with a return to Sugar Creek Opera for a concert of cherished love songs of the theater with fellow Danis Wilson alum, soprano Megan Brunning. Reuben also presented his first Turridu in a concert version of Cavalleria rusticana with West Suburban Symphony. Further season highlights include the Chicago premiere of Ildebrando Pizzetti’s Assassinio nella cattedrale with Opera Festival of Chicago as First Tempter/Knight, for which local critic M. L. Rantala praised Reuben’s tenor
