The successes of the writing team Gilbert and Sullivan refute the prejudice that British humor cannot be exported. Their love of satire, their musical wit and their courage in nonsense make the British team's comedies a wonderful pleasure to this day. This also and especially applies to the musical grotesque "Pirates of Penzance", in which one meets pirates on Cornwall's coast who, due to a strange bureaucratic nobility, cannot attack orphans; a squad of cops valiantly fighting their instinct to flee; and a motley crew of senior daughters having the adventure of a lifetime -- a through-ball for director Christian Brey ("Bank Robbery Comedy," "The Legend of Georgia McBride").
